Media library and optimisation

On the website, we use the following types of media:

PDFs

All PDF files uploaded should be under 1MB to ensure quick loading times and efficient use of server space. The PDF files must be named properly, referring to the post or page content. Upload PDF only if they are necessary (e.g., for eBooks), otherwise try to re-create it’s content directly on the web.

Images

Use the WEBP format for all images. Specific size guidelines are as follows:

  • Blog post image size: 1200 x 630 pixels.
  • Header image banner size: 1048 x 250 pixels.Featured image size (landscape): 1200 x 900 pixels.
  • Featured image size (portrait): 900 x 1200 pixels.

Videos

Videos should not be hosted on our web server. Instead, embed them from external sources like YouTube.

Media management

When an image is replaced on a page or post, the old image must be deleted from the server. This practice helps in managing our server’s storage efficiently and keeping the media library organized.

Upload images with proper names (e.g., named after a section or article where they are used), so that they are easily searchable later on.

Do not re-upload images that are already on the website (e.g., images of authors).
